The Hardin Lady Hornets traveled to New Waverly on Tuesday night and notched a nice 51-44 win against the Lady Bulldogs in district play. Maddy Fregia and Emmah Hebert made some big three-pointers in the fourth quarter, and Reese Parker hit a big shot in the final minute to put the game away. Post players Haven Crump, Fayth Adams, Alissa Aragonez, and Lindsey Tinney all did a good job controlling the boards. Madison Boston and Georgia Vance played solid defense and created several turnovers for Hardin. The Lady Hornets will travel to Coldspring on Friday night.

The Bears grabbed a 12-5 lead after the first eight minutes of play and then increased their advantage to 21-11 at the half. Chloe Sellers scored all six of her points in the third quarter, and Hull-Daisetta put together their best quarter of the night and cut the LC-M lead to 28-22 heading into the fourth quarter of play. The Lady Bears won the fourth quarter 16-9 to grab the 13-point win. Kaylei Armstrong scored 10 of her team-high 18 points in the first half. Kaidyn Smith added 4 points for the Lady Cats. Evadale will come to town on Friday night.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and then pushed the advantage to 39-16 at the break. New Waverly put the game out of reach in the third period with a 19-10 showing to lead 58-26 after three quarters. Carson Williams led Hardin with ii points and 9 rebounds while Caden Elmore and Logan Parker each added 4 points apiece. Taylor Landon had five assists. The Hornets will host Coldspring on Friday night.

The Fighting Owls led 15-14 after a quarter of play before Tarkington came back to win the second quarter 12-8 and led 26-23 at the half. A low third quarter saw Anderson-Shiro win 8-7 to cut the deficit to 33-31 heading into the fourth quarter. The Longhorns then enjoyed a nice fourth quarter in which they outscored the Fighting Owls 18-10 to put the game away. Colby Morris and Bryce Ellington each added 7-points apiece and Carlos Preciado led the rebounding with 7. Tarkington will travel to Trinity on Friday night.
Read moreThe Dayton Broncos put together a good team effort on Tuesday night at home, and it paid off as they edged out the Caney Creek Panthers 51-49 in a district contest. Tanner Boufford led the scoring for the Broncos with 14 points. It was Isaac Ramirez that got Dayton out to a quick start, though, by scoring the game’s first five points for the Broncos as they led 5-2. Boufford then connected from downtown, and Dayton was up 8-2. Later in the opening quarter, Donovan Orebo hit the offensive boards and scored, and the Bronco’s advantage was up to 17-10. Caney Creek scored the final four points of the period to cut the deficit to 17-14 after one. In the second quarter, the lead ballooned to 24-16 thanks to a three-pointer by Boufford. Once again, the Panthers closed the period on a run and moved to within 26-23 at the break. Caney Creek started the third period on a 13-6 run to lead 36-33 before a bucket by Ramirez pulled Dayton to within 36-35 with 2:41 left in the third quarter. The Broncos would move in front and lead 41-39 after three-quarters of play. Dayton started the final eight minutes on a 6-0 run led by a bucket by Orebo and a score from Houston Gault with the assist from Orebo to lead 47-39 with 5:14 left in the game. The Panthers closed the advantage to 49-47 with under a minute remaining before two free throws by Gault iced the game away and made it 51-47 with 26 seconds left. Orebo finished with 8 points for Dayton, while Ramirez added 7. The Broncos will host Porter at home on Friday night.
Read moreThe Dayton Broncos and Nederland Bulldogs got together on Saturday afternoon at the Port Neches-Groves Soccer Tournament, and in a very physical game, it was Nederland holding on in the second half for a 2-1 win. Dayton wasted little time in grabbing an early 1-0 lead as Francisco Sanchez scored on a penalty kick in the 8th minute. The Bulldogs quickly responded as they drew a Bronco penalty in the 13th minute and scored on a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-apiece. A minute later, Nederland took the lead for good as Bilal Alani scored on a breakaway to make it 2-1. Dayton had a shot-on-goal in the 26th minute, but Ismael Navarro could not find the nets. A couple of minutes later, Bryan Martinez had a look that almost found the nets. The second half did not feature a lot of shots-on-goal as the Bulldogs kept the Broncos from making a good threat as they would hold on for the win. Dayton will be back in action this weekend as they host the Bronco Tournament at Houston Methodist Field.
Read moreThe Liberty Panthers led by double digits heading into the fourth quarter and then held on at the end to notch an important 52-51 win over the Splendora Wildcats on Friday night at home in a district tilt. Liberty won the first quarter 17-9 and then extended their halftime advantage to 33-24 by winning the second stanza 16-15. Splendora scored the first five points of the third quarter to get within 33-29 before a bucket by Kieron Joiner made it 35-29. Moments later, it was Vincent Harris nailing a three-pointer and the lead was back to 40-31. The Panthers then took their biggest lead of the night with 3:40 left in the third quarter, with Devin Fregia hitting the offensive boards and scoring to make it 4533. Late in the third period, the Wildcats closed within 4739 until a steal and bucket by Kaden Nolan gave Liberty a 49-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Splendora cut the deficit in half by scoring the first five -points of the period until Harris had a nice drive and score to make it 51-44 with 2:50 remaining in the game. Down 52-51, the Wildcats had the ball and a chance for the win, but the Panthers defense got strong and forced Splendora into a tough couple of shots and Liberty had themselves the district win. Harris led the Panthers in scoring with 15, while Joiner also finished in double figures with 10. Fregia and Patrick Flowers each added 6 points apiece. Liberty will be in action again on January 19 in Livingston.
