Vape shop robber arrested after CPD officer investigates
On the morning of Monday, Sept. 4, at approximately 2 a.m., Cleveland Police Department dispatchers were notified of a robbery at Vape City, which is located at 101 E. Houston St. in Cleveland. Employees of the store informed dispatchers that a male subject had entered the store while brandishing a "revolver-type handgun."
According to store employees, the suspect entered the store and demanded they give him all the money from the cash register. The employees complied and gave the suspect the money contained in the cash register drawer. The suspect then grabbed several bundles of cigarettes and cigars from the shelves and placed the items into a shopping bag.
He then escorted the employees to a back room and shut them in before using the front door to flee the scene.
Cleveland Police Department Officer E. Fleming conducted extensive interviews and followed up tips. He also examined the store surveillance footage and was able to identify the suspect using the information he had gathered.
The suspect was identified as Darrien Deion Davison, aged 28, of Houston. Davison had previously lived in Cleveland as a teenager and was familiar with the area. Davison was already on federal probation for similar crimes throughout the Houston area.
Davison was apprehended approximately two weeks into the investigation, while in the Houston area. Cleveland Police Department officers transported him to the jail in Cleveland and he was then extradited to the Liberty County Jail.
He is currently being held in the Liberty County Jail for Aggravated Robbery, which is a first degree felony. His bond has been set at $200,000.
Cleveland Police Department Chief Darrel Broussard commended Officer Fleming for his diligent work on the case, stating that Fleming "did an exceptional job by interviewing the victims and seeking additional tips in this robbery case."
