Janis Elizabeth Willey Mathews, 1946-2019

Janis Elizabeth (Betty) Willey Mathews, born in Nederland Texas on July 10, 1946 to Frank and Serena Ratcliff Willey. She passed this life on Aug.17 after courageously surviving both breast and lung cancers. 

Born at home at only 3 pounds, she was the youngest of eight children. She attended Nederland schools and graduated from Nederland High School in 1964.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Serena Ratcliff Willey; her sisters and brother-in-laws, Annette Willey Lormand (Wayne) of Orange, Edna Willey Totten (William) of Nederland, Beatrice Willey Williams (Norvil) of Carthage; and infant brother, Frank Willey Jr.; brother-in-law, John Templain of Newton; and nieces, Rebecca Sue Totten of Nederland and Hope Willey of Nederland. 

She is survived by her husband Dr. Roy Mathews of Sherwood, Arkansas; daughters, Tracy Allen (Chuck) of Hardin, Texas, and Kristal Allen (Brian) of Kyle, Texas; and two step-sons, Brent Mathews (Sandy Pimeno) of Whitesboro, Texas, and Dr. Paul Mathews of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Maegan Jones (Wes Hutter), Shelby Yarbrough (Adam), Jennifer Allen Cook (Mac), and Davey Allen (Mikay) Miranda Allen, Victoria Allen, Jaxon Allen; great-grandchildren, Tyler Jones, Augustus Hutter, Cooper Moyer and Charlotte Yarbrough. She is also survived by her three remaining siblings, Joe Willey (Irene) of Groves, Texas, Philip Willey of Bonham, and Nancy Willey Templain of Beaumont; and a host of very special nieces, nephews and other friends and family. The family wishes to extend our gratitude to caregivers Ms. Ann Rogers of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ms. Mary Foxworth (Batson) and Texas Elite Hospice Services.

Services for Mrs. Mathews are under the direction of Allison Funeral Services of Liberty, with visitation on Aug. 21, 12-2 p.m. and services at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston Aug. 22  at 2:15 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to support the American Cancer Society or another charity of your choice. Pallbearers will be Jason Templain, Jeffery Templain, Justin Templain, Jacob Templain, Adam Kuehn and Brent Mathews.
