Broncos hoping for another playoff run in 2023
DAYTON - The Broncos will be looking for their second straight trip to the playoff s in 2023 after a solid 2022 campaign that saw the purple and white end a drought on the gridiron.
Dayton will open the season at home on Aug. 25 against Porter and then travel to Delmar Stadium to play a Saturday game on Labor Day weekend against the Waltrip Rams.
The Broncos will then have a short week as they return to Houston Methodist Field at Bronco Stadium on Sept. 8 against the Montgomery Bears. Last year’s win against the Bears was perhaps the confidence boost that Dayton needed heading into district in 2022 and would be another big victory with district play right around the corner in 2023.
After a bye week, Dayton will open district play at Santa Fe on Sept. 22. The Indians were undefeated heading into this clash a year ago, but it was all Broncos in a 51-27 whipping.
The locals head home for Nederland the following Friday as they look to repeat the chewing they gave the Bulldogs in the Golden Triangle 45-0 last season.
Next will be a Galena Park ISD Stadium trip on Oct. 6 against the Yellow Jackets. Dayton snagged its second straight shut-out a year ago with a 49-0 blanking of Galena Park.
In what will surely be one of the Broncos’ most significant games of the year, Port Neches- Groves comes to town for a rematch of last season’s most exciting and heartbreaking contest. The Indians scored with under two minutes remaining to pull out a 35-28 win. Dayton will look for revenge on Homecoming Night.
The Broncos head back on the road at Texas City on Oct. 20. In a critical game in 2022. The Broncos came out on top against the Stingarees 34-25.
The Willowridge Eagles will be the final regular season home game the following Friday.
The regular season wraps with a Thursday night game on Nov. 2 at Hall Stadium against Fort Bend Marshall. Last season’s match-up with the Buffs was for the district crown on a Thursday night in Dayton, and Marshall used its rushing attack in a 52-21 win.
