The experience was a rewarding one, as teachers were able to become familiar with their students' communities.

ANAHUAC — Staffers new to Anahuac ISD saw the district close up and personal as they journeyed through the district on a bus tour July 3.

The trip took about 50 new employees through Oak Island, where they met Thomas Ly with TY Seafood. Ryan Tu gave an overview of his father's hard work that made the business such a success.

The two buses went on to Double Bayou as Bobby Hall and Double Bayou resident Carlton Carrington each gave a brief history on their respective bus of the area, including the impact of the Jackson family and the Double Bayou Dance Hall that was a hub of entertainment for decades.

The tour made a brief pit stop at Jeri's Seafood in Smith Point, where Bethany Vest spoke of her company's legacy. She took a moment to announce the contribution by Jeri's Seafood of $125 for each Anahuac Elementary and Anahuac Primary teacher to use in their classrooms.

After lunch at the Crawfish Place, the tour proceeded to Hankamer and Wallisville with history tidbits given by Hall and Sue Hawthorne including the details of the Hog War.

The tour ended at Fort Anahuac Park with more tales of the area's unique history.

Superintendent Cody Abshier said that he felt the tour into each of AISD's communities was important to give educators the opportunity to see the neighborhoods from which their students come, helping to further engage with them during the school year.
