Liberty shuts out H-F, Lady Panthers drop 2-0 decision
HAMSHIRE - The Liberty boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Hamshire on Wednesday night and a battle with the Hamshire- Fannett Longhorns.
The Panthers boys team got a hat trick from freshman Diego Diaz for a 4-0 victory over the Longhorns.
Liberty led 2- 0 at the half, then put the game away with another pair of goals. Diaz scored three goals, and sophomore Julio Rubio scored the other goal. Goalkeeper Alan Rangel received credit for the shutout. The win moved the Panthers to 1-0 in district 18-4A play.
The Lady Panthers dropped their district opener to the Lady Horns 2-0. Hamshire-Fannett scored both goals in the first half and then cruised in the second half.
Alondra Rodriguez led the Lady Panthers on offense, while Alissa Caruso was strong on the defensive side.
The Liberty boys and girls will host New Waverly at Memorial Stadium on Friday night.
