Dayton soccer takes down Lumberton 5-1
DAYTON- After a slow start in the first half, the Dayton Broncos soccer team really picked up the pace and scored four second- half goals in taking care of Lumberton 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Houston Methodist Field at Bronco Stadium.
The Broncos jumped out quickly in the first half and scored on a Nick Kopecky goal in the first :90 seconds of the game to lead 1-0.
The Raiders evened up things midway in the first half to tie the score at one apiece on a goal. That would be the score at the half.
“I think we scored so quickly, and our guys relaxed a little bit,” said Head Coach Jed Garner. “We talked at halftime and got things going in the second half.”
Dayton needed just three minutes in the second half to take the lead for good, with Gustavo Orozco scoring to make it 2-1.
Just four minutes later, it would be Ismael Navarro finding the back of the net thanks to an assist from Kopecky and the advantage was up to 3-1.
Navarro almost got his second goal in the 57th minute, but the shot was just off.
A minute later, Angel Aguiar blasted a shot past the Lumberton goalie and the Broncos lead was 4-1. In the 68th minute, Dayton got an Adrian Morales goal thanks to a penalty kick and the advantage was extended to 5-1.
The Broncos will be back in action on Friday night as they welcome in Liberty.
