ANAHUAC— The long-anticipated reconstruction project of the Oak Street bridge is complete, allowing a new path for traffic.

On the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 19, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the Oak Street bridge at 1100 Oak St.

Years prior, the bridge was closed after being deemed unsafe for traffic, and in 2020, the reconstruction project began.

Initially, a $350,000 grant was allocated to the project, with an additional $70,000 from Chambers County.

When more funds were needed to complete the project, Robbie King, Chambers County Economic Development, requested and was awarded an additional $427,000 for the project. Chambers County Commissioners Court approved an additional $17,485 from the American Rescue Plan Act grant fund to complete the project.
