ANAHUAC – It was a good week for the Anahuac Lady Panthers in district play as they picked up a pair of wins over East Chambers and Kountze.

The week started at home on Tuesday against East Chambers and a Hannah McKenzie single in the bottom of the eighth inning was good enough for a 6-5 win over the Lady Buccaneers.

East Chambers scored three runs in the top of the first inning, with the big hit of the frame being an Emily Vratis double to make it 3-0.

Anahuac picked up a run in the bottom half of the first on a McKenzie double to score Jayda Granger and the deficit was 3-1.

The Lady Buccaneers made it 4-1 with a run in the top of the third inning.

The Lady Panthers picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to close within 4-3. Keeley Butler homered and then an RBI double by Emily Dominy made things tight.

Anahuac then tied the score in the sixth inning as Dominy reached on an error, allowing Butler and the game was tied at 4-4.

After neither team could scratch a run across in the seventh inning, the game went into extra innings.

East Chambers took the lead in the top of the eighth as Marley Morgan doubled to score Isabella Quave, making it 5-4.

The Lady Panthers wasted little time in responding in the bottom half of the frame. Granger scored Taylor Trahan on a ground ball that was booted to tie the score at 5. McKenzie followed with a single to score Dominy and Anahuac was celebrating the walk-off win.

Brecken Wilpitz pitched all eight innings to get the win on the bump. McKenzie, Dominy and Gabby Palacios had two hits each for the Lady Panthers.

On Friday night, Anahuac needed only five innings to take care of Kountze 13-0.

Wilpitz did it all by allowing just five hits while striking out four. She also finished with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored at the plate.

McKenzie finished with three RBIs and Butler added two hits.
