Anahuac sweeps past Kountze
ANAHUAC– Needing a sweep of the Kountze Lions last week to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Anahuac Panthers did just that with a pair of wins.
The Panthers took the 5-0 win at home on Tuesday night, then went on the road on Friday and took care of business with a 5-3 victory over the Lions.
On Tuesday, Lane Hall allowed just a single hit in seven innings while striking out five in the shutout performance.
Anahuac scored one in the second inning and three more in the fourth inning to lead 4-0.
Luke Hoagland had a two-run double in the fourth inning. Hoagland finished with three hits, two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Panthers at the plate.
Blaedin Josephson had two hits and scored a pair of runs.
Friday night in Kountze, Anahuac took a 3-0 lead before the Lions scored three runs in the fifth inning to knot the score at three.
The Panthers then won the game with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Brayden Sutch had a two-run single to give Anahuac a 5-3 lead.
Derek Dominy pitched the final three innings on the mound in getting the win. Garrett Cornelius pitched the first four innings.
Hall and Sutch each had two hits apiece.
