Lady Panthers settle for a split
ANAHUAC – It was a split for the Anahuac Lady Panthers on the softball diamond last week against Kountze and Orangefield.
Anahuac started the week at home on Tuesday night against Kountze, and the Lady Panthers needed only five innings to beat the Lady Lions 11-1.
Brecken Wilpitz had a massive game on the mound and at the plate for Anahuac.
Wilpitz allowed only two hits while striking out five in getting the win on the mound. At the plate, she led off the bottom of the first inning with a homer to stake her team to a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Panthers scored six runs in the second inning as they built a 7-0 advantage. In the fourth inning, Jayda Granger homered to left field and the score was 9-1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Anahuac scored a pair of runs to end the game. Hannah McKenzie hit a sacrifice fly to right field which chased home Gabby Palacios for the game clincher.
Wilpitz finished with three hits and three RBIs, while Granger added two hits along with two RBIs. McKenzie and Kaitlyn Butler also had two RBIs each.
On Friday night, the Lady Panthers traveled to Orangefield and fell to the Lady Bobcats 4-0. Wilpitz struck out three in the complete game performance.
Orangefield led 1-0 after an inning of play and added two more in the fifth. Granger led the offensive with two hits.
