Lady Panthers ease past Lady Bucs 5-3
WINNIE – Jayda Granger and Estefani Palacios each had three hits as the Anahuac Lady Panthers picked up a 5-3 win at East Chambers last Monday afternoon.
The score was 1-0, heading to the sixth inning with Anahuac ahead. Taylor Trahan singled home Keeley Butler to give the Lady Panthers a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Buccaneers cut the deficit in half with a run in the bottom half of the frame as Mikeala Quave crossed the plate to make it 2-1.
Both teams then combined for five runs in the seventh inning. Butler singled home Kaitlyn McDaniel and the lead was 3-1.
Cyann Cook followed with a hard grounder to second base to plate Butler and the advantage was 4-1. Palacios followed with a single to score Cook and Anahuac led 5-1.
East Chambers made things interesting in the bottom half of the seventh. With two outs, Marley Morgan singled, followed by an Isabella Quave home run to left field and the Lady Buccaneers were within 5-3.
Anahuac starter Brecken Wilpitz then retired the final East Chambers hitter for the complete game win. Wilptz finished with five strikeouts.
Morgan and Zoen Selby had two hits apiece for the Lady Buccaneers, while Isabella Quave finished with nine strikeouts on the mound.
On Tuesday, Anahuac scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Buna 6-2 at home.
Tied at two apiece heading to the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Panthers took the lead at 3-2 on a Cook fly ball to score McDaniel. Gabby Palacios followed with an RBI single for a 4-2 advantage. Granger scored two more with a single and Anahuac was on their way to a 6-2 win.
Wilpitz struck out five on the mound and added two hits at the plate. Hannah McKenzie, McDaniel and Estefani Palacios had two hits each.
"Spring Break week is always tough to play due to the change of routine," said Anahuac Head Coach Jackson Gore. "But our girls locked in and picked up a pair of wins."
