AUSTIN— There have been many great debates throughout time, ranging from politics to science, and Chambers County students are well on their way to joining the fold.

Last week, Chambers County sent a pair of teams to Austin to compete in the UIL Class 3A Cross-Examination Debate where they walked away with some awards.

Anahuac High School students Tina and Tammy Ly, senior and sophomore, and East Chambers High School students Jonathan Carter and Dax Henley, both seniors, qualified for the state competition after both teams placed first and second in the district competition in March.

Out of 60 teams, the Chambers County teams advanced to the finals along with 16 other teams.

On day one of the competition, Tina Ly placed fourth and Carter placed third to be part of the Top Six.

After competing on day two, the Ly duo placed third overall, earning their medals and a plaque.
