Read moreThe Cleveland Indians broke a scoreless tie at the half with two second-half goals to knock off Dayton 2-0 in district 20-5A play on Friday night at Houston Methodist Field at Bronco Stadium. The Broncos had a good chance at the 26th minute as Brian Reyes just missed on a shot at goal. Hugo Alcaraz then had a good look for Cleveland that just missed its mark in the 31st minute. Six minutes into the second half, the Indians ended the scoreless game with a goal to make it 1-0. Dayton then had a good look in the 55th minute, but the David Perez shot just missed its mark. Six minutes later, Broncos goalie Thomas Jones made a great save on an Alcaraz attempt. Gustavo Orozco almost tied the game in the 63rd minute, but his header was just high. The Indians then put the game away in the 78th minute as this time Alcaraz would not be denied to run the advantage to 2-0 with a goal. Dayton will travel to Caney Creek on Friday night, while Cleveland will host New Caney.

Just ask Mumford as the Mustangs led by 17 heading into the fourth quarter only to see the Bobcats came back with an amazing rally in the final eight minutes to lift them to a 64-63 victory in a 2A Region III Regional Quarterfinal match-up on Saturday evening at Willis High School. After their win over #11 ranked Flatonia on Tuesday night, Hull-Daisetta knocked off another 20+ win team to reach the Regional Semi-finals. The Bobcats will next face Port Aransas. Mumford could not miss in the third quarter as they nailed eight three-pointers in the quarter to turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 57-40 lead heading into the fourth period. Hull-Daisetta refused to quit. The Bobcats started the quarter off on a 10-o run to get within 57-50 on a three-pointer by Landyn Sellers. Before then, Bryce Aguirre scored the first seven points and then Sellers nailed his trey. After a Mumford bucket made it 59-5o, Braedyn Rayon scored on a drive to make it 59-52. Rayon then took the game over as he scored eight straight points and his steal and score, while he was fouled, had the Bobcats within 62-61 with 2:05 left in the game after hitting on the free throw. A minute later, Adrian Eaglin was fouled and hit on one of two free throws to tie the game at 62. Mumford then used some clock and LeAnthony Dykes hit one of two free throws after being fouled, and the Mustangs led 63-62. After both traded possessions, Eaglin again was fouled and went to the free-throw line with his team down by one with n seconds left in the game. The sophomore calmly sank both free throws to give his team a onepoint lead. Hull-Daisetta then buckled down on defense and did not give Mumford a good look as they sent the crowd into a frenzy with the win. In the first half, the Bobcats led 17-13 early in the second quarter as Rayon struck from downtown. The lead moved to 26-22 as Rayon scored on a three-point play. Hull-Daisetta led 30-29 at the break. Mumford nailed eight three-pointers in the third quarter, with Ruben Sustaita hitting five of those as they put up 28 points in the period to take the 17-point lead into the fourth quarter. Rayon finished with 32 points and five steals, while Aguirre added 12 and De’Vante Broussard chipped in with 11.
