The Hull-Daisetta girls cross country team stepped up in class last Saturday morning to run at the 22nd Annual Anahuac HC Meet; the Lady Cats held their own and finished 8th in the team totals. Kaylie Armstrong led the way with a 25th place finish, and teammate Delila Dao was right behind in 29th. Kaidyn Smith was also close to her teammates with a 32nd place finish. Read moreThe Liberty Panthers won their third game in a row Friday night and improved their season record to 3 and 1 by defeating the Shepherd Pirates 21-10. Several big plays by Liberty and their tough defense proved too much for the boys from San Jacinto County. Liberty put up 233 yards on 39 plays from scrimmage. Their leading rusher was senior Jolan Curtis, who had 72 yards on 12 carries. Quarterback Kaden Nolan was 1 for 6 passing. That one reception, however, was a 28-yard touchdown pass to senior Mason Goudeau. The Panthers were penalized 3 times for 23 yards. They also fumbled 3 times, losing 2 of them. Liberty’s key to success was again their defense that held Shepherd to just 131 yards, forced 5 punts and 3 turnovers-on-downs. The leading Pirate ground-gainer was freshman Preston Stephens with 12 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown. Shepherd was penalized 5 times for 45 yards. Junior Quarterback HD Green was 2 for 12 passing with one interception.

The Indians had shown some big improvement in wins over North Forest and Waller, but unfortunately the Mustangs had some other ideas in store for the Indians in a 41-14 drubbing.

It was actually a sweep for the whole program as the JV and freshman also won their matches. Leading the way for the varsity Lady Broncos in kills was Jerrica Keener with 8, and Laila Beck finished close behind with 7. MyKala Souders led the way in assists with 17. Dayton will host Conroe Caney Creek on Friday afternoon.

Hardin started district play at Trinity with 25-13, 25-12, and 25-4 scores over the Trinity Lady Tigers. Georgia Vance led the way with 11 kills, 11 assists, 6 digs, and two aces. Josie Rollins finished with eight kills, and Makinnley Smart chipped in with five kills and two blocks. Kylee Land added 9 assists and 5 digs. The Lady Hornets hosted Coldspring on Friday afternoon and won 25-6, 25-6, and 25-13. Vance had 9 kills, 2 aces, 10 assists, and 5 digs. Rollins was close behind with 8 kills, 10 digs, and 3 aces while teammate Maddy Fregia also had 8 kills to go along with 6 digs and 3 aces. Juliana Smart finished with 4 kills and 7 aces, and Land had 19 assists and 4 aces. Hardin will host New Waverly on Friday afternoon.
