Students from the Cleveland High School Welding Program attended the Lamar Institute of Technology Welding Certification and Competition event, held Friday, Jan. 15 in Beaumont. Members of the program competed in an array of different events during the welding competition, five students receiving their certifications, meeting AWS (American Welding Society) standards. For the students to compete in the welding competition their weld first had to pass certification per AWS standards then they were judged accordingly.

Read moreOn Saturday, December 5, the Dayton High School Marine JROTC went to Brenham to compete in the Seventh Annual Brenham High School JROTC competition, where they placed third overall out of twelve participating teams. The cadets did very well, with several students winning awards in the different divisions. The cadets had two first-place finishes, one being in the Male Physical Fitness competition and the other in the Female Color Guard competition. Chief Warrant Officer Tash and 1st Sergeant Matthews are incredibly proud of this group.
Read moreStudents at Liberty Middle School for the first time participated in a 100% virtual Solo and Ensemble competition, earning 15 first division or (superior) ratings and one second division or (excellent) rating. In addition, Cayden Daniels and Ellie Hale earned an additional medal for being selected as Outstanding Soloist for their respective judges! Due to Covid, students had to record videos and send them in to be judged, which they typically do in person. This added extra pressure, not just for these middle schoolers but also for advanced singers. “You can’t go back and listen to yourself in-person; you sing, and it’s done. This was harder because you want to get it perfect, and so trying to get the best recording makes you more nervous,” said one of the singers. These students are a handful amongst millions of students in public and private schools that participated in this competition and similar competitions internationally. Congratulations to these studentsnot even an international pandemic could stop them from succeeding! “All GAS, NO BRAKES”! The Liberty Middle School Choirs are under the direction of Mark Patterson.
