Dayton ISD Celebrations for April 2021
Colbert – On April 1st Colbert celebrated Easter and had their egg hunts. Students had fun hunting for eggs and then counting them in groups of 10. Every Thursday in April Colbert’s Tiny Broncos celebrate Compassion Thursdays. Each week for just $1.00 they get to wear something fun and donate to a great cause. On April 1st it was Lei off the Sugar Day and students collected $74 for JDRF. On Thursday, April 9th, they went blue for Bridgehaven and they wore blue jeans and slippers, $129 was collected. On April 15th their futures were bright and student wore neon colors and sunglasses, $49 was collected for the Beltrami fund.
ERR – Ms. Franklin’s 1st grade class enjoyed researching people of great achievement to help them prepare for their biography essay. Students and staff spoiled Mrs. King and Mrs. Hobbs all week for AP Appreciation by showering them with lots of sweet notes and videos telling them how awesome they are. Staff had a blast hunting eggs at our Staff Egg Hunt. Five lucky staff members found a golden egg and won a special prize.
KMB – Kimmie Brown Elementary is finishing the year strong by continuing engaging lessons all around the building. Some of these lesson include dissecting owl pellets, math pixel art, and writing and solving math word problems. The kindergarteners are having fun practicing name identification by finding eggs with their names on them. This is a yearly spring activity that our kindergarteners always enjoy.
SFA – SFA staff and kindergarteners participated in a fun filled egg hunt. Staff had a blast hunting around the school for eggs that were redeemed for candy, gift cards and much more! Our kindergarteners enjoyed some fun in the sun while hunting for eggs! SFA is super proud of their scholars and the growth they have shown during STAAR Mock exams. Those students that mastered their exams were recognized over the morning announcements and were presented certificates for their hard work. Mrs. Mobley and Walen’s class also earned a Silly String party for surpassing their class goal on the Mock STAAR exams. Students enjoyed covering their teacher in silly string. The SFA Scholars had their amazing artwork displayed at the Annual Public Art Show at the Dayton Community Center. We are so proud of our students and our Art teacher, Mrs. Campbell for all their hard work. We would like to congratulate third grade student, Daniel Moya for being recognized as SFA’s PBK Calendar winner!
NAEC – The students played an online quiz game called Gimkit to practice their skills solving one step equations. Another group of students competed in teams to demonstrate their knowledge of geometric transformation. The 8th grade students were working on the STAAR science review. Mrs. Neel, 8th grade science teacher, videos her first lesson every Monday and Tuesday and sends via email to Mr. Parsons. Students watch the video to complete notes while Mr. Parsons expands on concepts during class. AAEP Graduates…we have serviced 26 students through AAEP and have graduated 24. When students have completed their work in each class, they are expected to read their library book. Students go to the library every Thursday during their ELA class. To ensure students are not sitting in class without their book, the teachers have a system transition book from one class to the next.
WWJH – Mrs. Sandra William’s and some of her Art students took a picture in front of their “Growing During Adversity” project. Students used the outlines of their hands to write brief messages about overcoming adversity. WWJH held their first “Pony Picnic” earlier this month. Students could buy tickets using their PBIS points. Students enjoyed all you can eat hotdogs (grilled by Mr. Ron Wilson), chips and cookies. WWJH students and future Bronco Soccer players met for their first practice as part of the new Pony Soccer Team. Awards from our GCCISD UIL Academic Meet were handed out last week. The large trophies are for 1st place in the grade level. Smaller trophies were awarded to top placing teams and students also received individual Medals for placing.
DHS – Congratulations Francisco, Angel and Corey. These students won a Blue Ribbon in Ag Mech Division at the HLSR. They built a rolling shop table. These young ladies represented Dayton High School at the Texas High School Powerlifting State Meet! All hitting PR’s and Kloee Wells and Gracie Whitehead placing 5th. (Picture 3) DHS Ag Teacher Hali Russell and the Horticulture classes have done a great job this year in getting our greenhouse back in shape! (Picture 4) Congratulations to our Lady Broncos Basketball players that received TGCA Academic All-State – Amber Kelly, Haley Sutch, Kyra Keener, and Allie Davis. () Congratulations to Shelby Perry for being elected to serve as the 2021-2022 FCCLA State Vice President of Competitive Events.

Bridgehaven – Dayton ISD held the annual Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center Fundraiser and Dayton ISD staff members generously donated $1785.00 On April 15, 2021, Dr. Jessica Johnson, DISD Superintendent, presented Meagan Croker, Outreach Manager, the check in the Dayton ISD Administration Building board room. Employees celebrated the Dayton ISD and Bridgehaven partnership with a check presentation.
Child Nutrition – Dayton ISD was recently given the “Cheers” award from Chartwell’s and named their “District of the Month”. Each month the director of Chartwells selects a “District of the Month” this month our district was chosen. They were selected for going above and beyond on a daily basis. Child Nutrition will be presented with a certificate and a traveling Cheer’s Megaphone. Myala Sanchez received the Chartwells CHEERS award for bringing their values to life in the community during the month of March 2021. She showed connection with their customers, leaving each person better than she found them. She is an outstanding person and team player. Congratulation to Theresa Younger for being awarded the CHEERS award for the month of April She always is doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. Serving our students and staff daily at WWJH School. We are proud to have such a great child nutrition department!
We are proud to have two of our Child Nutrition Program Managers who will graduate from the Region IV Manager’s Academy on May 7, 2021. Congratulations to Lacey Zaruba, Stephen F. Austin Elementary and Margie Padilla from Dayton High School.

Congratulations to Mr. Hector Herrera who recently served on the Chat with Chiefs panel at HCDE. The panel shared their thoughts, concerns and lesson in preparing to bring students and staff back to school safely.
