Read moreCounty Historical Commission to Honor Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Dayton (1) The Liberty County Historical Commission will honor Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Dayton during a marker dedication recognizing its long history and impact on the community on Saturday, March 23rd, 2022 at 10 a.m. The church is located at 801 S. Colbert Street in Dayton. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church was organized in 1871. Please join the Liberty County Historical Commission, members of the church and community for this marker dedication. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. (2) The Dayton Historical Society will meet Monday, March 28 at 6 p.m. at Parker House meeting room, 201 S. Hill St. in Dayton. This month’s guest speaker will be Jamie Carter Bollich of Beaumont, and she will be doing a presentation entitled “Southeast Texan Sol Wright: Rambling into the History Books.” The speaker’s roots go back seven generations in Texas. All are invited to the program! (3) The Angelina County Texas History Conference takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 9th in the meeting room of the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce at 1615 South Chestnut Street. Sponsored by the Angelina County Genealogical Society, the cost is minimal--only $10 for the whole day--and the conference offers a lineup of diverse topics: Stanley Fletcher’s “Louisiana Blood on Texas Soil,” Jamie Carter Bollich’s “Southeast Texan Sol Wright: Rambling into the History Books,” and Rebecca Stark Nugent’s “If The Devil Had a Wife: The Rest of The Story.” Other topics include Jerry Hopkins on the involvement of Allan Shivers in Farmers State Bank in Center; “The Old Stone Fort Museum” by Museum Curator Carolyn Spears; Linda Reynolds “History Is For the Taking at the East Texas Research Center”; and Charlotte Corbell Ingle “A Corbell Family Legacy.” Dickie Dixon will be the last speaker of the day, discussing “The Cordova Rebellion.” To reserve your seat, send $10 in the form of a check or money order made out to the Angelina County Genealogical Society to Betty Dufner Treasurer c/o Angelina County Genealogical Society P.
