Matthew “Matt” Adair Schaefer Sr

Matthew “ Matt” Adair Schaefer Sr, 46 of Pasadena, Texas went home to be with the Lord on June 16th, 2023. Matt was born February 10th, 1977, in Pasadena, Texas. He is preceded in death by his Father William Charles Thomas Schaefer and stepfather E. J. “Jay” Lion. Grandparents, William Charles Schaefer, Mary Teresa Schaefer, Coleen Powledge, and Gwenlyn “G.A.” Powledge.

Schaefer II, daughter, Deija Schaefer; precious grandson, Asher Schaefer; and his siblings, brother, Christopher Schaefer and wife Elizabeth Schaefer, sister Elizabeth Crump and husband Steven Crump; stepsiblings, brother Grant Lion and wife Alana Lion, sister Christina Blakey, husband Ron Blakey sister Cori Cox, husband Jason Cox; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.

Matt had a larger-than-life personality and a heart that had no limitations. Matt was a proud retired Veteran from the Navy where he enlisted at the age of 19 years old. He served his country proudly and was awarded many decorations, medals, and awards. In his years of service, he was awarded; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement, Navy “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal ( 2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3), and Expert Rifleman Medal.

Matt had a true dedication to helping people. He spent as much of his time as he could ministering and feeding the homeless, delivering bibles as well as reaching out to many Veterans who needed assistance adjusting. He spent hours with his mom making meals, buying clothes and necessities for those in need. Matt would have given the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Even when he had nothing to give, he would just sit and pray with the folks who needed a friend without any sort of judgment. All along the way Matt was in tremendous pain from his poor health conditions. He survived many illnesses and kidney cancer leaving him with many ailments that hindered his ability to live as he so desperately wanted to.

Matt was a true honorable man, and he will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. The impact he leaves on all that knew him inspire us to carry on his love for life family and God.

The visitation will be held at Peevey Funeral Home Sunday, June 25, from 2:00pm until 3:00pm., the service will follow at 3:00pm. Interment will be held at Houston National Cemetery Monday, June 26, at 11:30am.
