Surrounded Yet Victorious

Have you ever felt like you were surrounded by everything and everyone? Maybe felt overwhelmed by everything that is going on in your life? If you have ever felt this way, then I have come to tell you that God is right there with you! Just like shod was with David, He is right there with you.

As the writing of Psalm 3 tells how David was in a great deal of trouble. His own son led what seemed to be a successful rebellion against him. Many of his previous friends joined those who troubled him (2 Samuel 15:13). David’s situation was so bad that many felt he was beyond God’s help.

Despite many saying there was no help for him in God, David knew that God was his shield and his faith in God was unshakable.

God sustained David. He allowed him to sleep and get rest, and he woke him again in the morning so he could continue. With God sustaining him, David could stand against any foe.

This Psalm shows how David does not wish to fight his battles in his own strength, but in God’s. This is exactly how we should do it. We know that word of God tells us that God wins in the end; however until God comes again for His bride we must endure to the end and our earthly battles should be fought through Him and not on our own.

“It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by You” are the lyrics to a song we sing often, and it rings true for David as well as us. When it looked like David was surrounded by enemies and many were saying that God would not deliver him, he was surrounded by the glory of God and His salvation.

Do you feel surrounded by the battles of life? Are you facing trials on multiples fronts? Running out of options to solve your problems on your own? When life gets you down and you’re weary from the constant embattlement, you need a different approach. God doesn’t want you living like this: tired, weary, worried, stressed, overwhelmed, in despair. Instead, he wants you to face your battles from a place of strength, peace, and trust in him. How? Fight your battles by praising God. Praising God through the storms of life runs counter to how the world tells you to face your battles. It’s often the opposite of how you want to react. Yet, it may just be your best response.

Isaiah 59: 19 “ So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”
