MUSEUM OFFERS GLIMPSE AT CLEVELAND’S PAST

Since 2009 The Cleveland Historical Museum on 203 East Boothe Street has held events and exhibitions detailing the history of Cleveland with the desire to educate and inspire members of the community.

Through exhibits showcasing Cleveland’s growth from its start as an unincorporated railroad town, the museum attempts to freeze in time defining moments along the way. But history is continuous, as the museum curator Patricia Blaikie explains, “ Change always happens, so you want to try to remember what happened in the past.”

In May of last year, Blaikie was elected president of the Cleveland Historical Society, the volunteer group that operates the museum. She has big plans for the future, including a Cleveland History Summer Camp for elementary age children and a celebration of the society’s 20th anniversary in October.

In the meantime, the museum operates on its usual hours of Friday and Saturday, 11 am – 2 pm. Whenever it’s not giving tours, the museum lends itself as a gathering place for a local Veterans association, prayer group, and in previous months the women’s league.
