Galveston Historical Foundation 49th Annual Homes Tour

The Galveston Historical Foundation opens the doors to Galveston’s incredible architectural history through public tours of privately- owned homes during its annual homes tour. Tours will be held on May 6,7,13 and 14 from 10am – 6pm. Tickets are $45 for non-members until May 1 and then $50 after and re available online at www.galvestonhistory.org/ homestour or by calling 409-765-7834.

“The annual historic homes tour features everything from recent large-scale residential restorations to small livable coastal cottages” explains Dwayne Jones, GHF’s Executive Director. “We are bringing some of the finest examples of historic island properties to tour. The 2023 tour is once again a great introduction to the island’s architecture for newcomers as well as a familiar set of wonderful properties to those attended GHF’s homes tours for years.”

Homes of the tour are the 1890 McKinney- McDonald House, the 1890 Lobenstein Tenant Cottage, the 1892 Bendixen Corner Store & Residence, the 1899 Miller House, the 1901 Prindiville House, the 1905 Gengler House, the 1906 Spence House, the 1920 City National Bank Building, and the 1928 Eiband House.

Beverly Davis of Liberty will be the ticket chairman the first weekend of May at the Prindiville House with other Liberty volunteers: Neal Thornton, Roberta Thronton, Jo Mearns, Dana Abshier and Dozier Partlow. Helping her from Dayton are Mayor Caroline Wadzeck and Mary E. Conner. Other Volunteers helping are from Galveston.

Special Events include the Plein Air Southwest artist for their annual member’s competition and the Silk Stocking Tour and Wine Tasting in the 24th street neighborhood area on May 6th. On May 13, 5pm there will be Happy Hour at the 1838 Menard House. History on Tap Dinners will be May 5 and 12 at 7pm. Also, there will be the May 14, 10 am Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch in the 1880 Gartein Verein.

News this year are the Morning Photography Walk and Tour each day at 8am with different locations. The Galveston Island Trolly Tours will be on May 6 & 13 at 3 and 5pm. Also, each day at 11:30am there will be Lunch and Learn Lectures.
