Special musical performance at St. Stephen’s
International opera singer Sonja Bruzauskas will present a Vocal Recital at 5 pm on Sunday, April 16, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Liberty. The Public is in invited to come listen to an afternoon of beautiful art songs by these two talented ladies. We will have a reception in the Parish Hall after the performance.
Before moving to the United States, Ms Bruzauskas was a Mezzo Soprano soloist for the Staatsoperett e in Dresden, Germany, performing principal roles in both musicals and operas. Besides her expansive stage career in musical theatre, opera and operetta, Sonja is a well-established concert singer and recitalist, focusing on German Art Song and contemporary music. She has sung and lectured at institutions such as Vanderbilt, LSU, Rice University, the University of Houston, the Philosophical Society of Houston, Grinnell College, CalArts, as well as numerous health institutions. Board of Director positions include the Houston Chamber Choir, the German Center Houston, and she recently was the President of the Philosophical Society at Rice University. Sonja currently serves as board president for Ars Lyrica Houston, and serves as Director of the Theatre Forum at Round Top. She is the founder and director of Partnershools, a project that connects school communities through the Arts to empower diversity and strengthen communities. Sonja came to the US on a Rotary Scholarship.
Accompanying Ms. Bruzauskas is Israeli-American Pianist DR. TALI MORGULIS, who has been on the faculty of the University of Houston since 2008. Tali holds degrees in piano performance from the Tel Aviv Academy of Music and the New England Conservatory.
The Music performed on this evening will be “Frauen-Liebe und Leben” (A woman’s love and life) Opus 42 by German Romantic Composer Robert Schumann, composed in 1830. Other, music will be from Opus 13 by Robert’s Wife, Clara Schumann (1819-1896) who was considered to be one of the most significant women in musical history. Clara invented the classical pianoforte recital.
