Haskins scores 1,000th career point at Sabine Pass

You don’t see high school basketball players score 1,000 points in their career very often, but around Hull-Daisetta High School, it has become commonplace of late. The Lady Cats have now had a pair of players reach the feat this season as junior Vaquaylon Haskins joined teammate Kaylei Armstrong on Jan. 13 at Sabine Pass.
“I didn’t realize until after I had already reached it,” said Haskins.
Armstrong had reached the feet just a couple of weeks earlier in the season.
Last Tuesday night, before the game against Evadale, Haskins was honored by her teammates and the school with a basketball commemorating the achievement.
All Quay did afterward against Evadale was pour in a game- high 37 points in a big 62- 57 win for her team.
Haskins had five three-pointers in the game against the Lady Rebels and had 15 points in the opening quarter. She was also 10 for 10 from the free throw line.
“I did not even know that,” said Haskins in a phone interview on Sunday morning.
“I never dreamed I would score 1,000 points when I walked into the halls of Hull-Daisetta High School when I was a freshman,” said Haskins, “It’s pretty cool that Kaylei and I achieved such a milestone as teammates.”

“They double and triple-teamed me the whole game,” Haskins continued, “That does get frustrating for me sometimes, but I just try and stay positive and wait for my turn to score. They cannot double-team both of us at the same time. When the other one is not double-teamed, we know that’s our time to go score.”
Haskins has not reached her main goal, and that is getting the Lady Cats back into the playoffs and making a deep run when they get there.
“I want to win a State Championship before I leave here,” added Haskins, “That is something we are working towards.”
