Democrats hope rally fires up supporters

Event organizers hope echoes can still be heard from the Turn Texas Blue in 2022 Democratic Party Rally that took place over the weekend.

Democrats from Liberty, Montgomery, and San Jacinto counties joined forces on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Cleveland’s Samuel Wiley Park to kindle all the surrounding communities.

“ I was heartened to see so many Democrats come to Liberty County to fight for progressive change and a better future for Liberty County and for Texas. However, I am saddened that many Republicans are clinging to former President Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was not legitimate,” he said, adding, “ that Republicans are OK with the fact that our children are no longer safe in the classroom, and that Republicans continue to condone the Jan. 6 Insurrection at the United States Capitol in an attempt to overturn a free and fair election.”

Whereas, during the rally, candidates grazed many topics such as gun laws, education, and the appointment of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Among those in attendance was Jon Haire, candidate for US Congress in the TX 36th District against Republican incumbent Brian Babin.

Haire, a civil engineer, former professor, and business owner, discussed his plans to protect the students, support teachers, and help bring order to Washington.

One attendee said that while it was a lot of preaching to the choir, the event fired up those in attendance and gave them their marching orders heading into November.

“ While we are a long shot, we’ve still got a shot,” he said.

Senate District 3 Committee member Sharon L. Berry spoke about the need to push democracy to those in attendance, adding kindling to the fire.
