Cleveland elects new council members

A handful of Cleveland residents went to the polls over the weekend and decided the future of their city council by electing Desiree D. David and Fred Terrell.

A mere 312 of the over 4,000 registered voters in Cleveland cast ballots in the Runoff Election held Sat-urday, June 18, which is required by the city charter in the event a candidate does not garner 50% plus one vote in the municipal election.

In the race for Position 4, David defeated Rachel Hall in the closer of the two runoffs on the ballot. After the Early Voting results were released shortly after the polls closed Saturday night, Hall had a slim margin, secured the win by 17 votes.

David will take the seat previously held by Delores Terry.

In the Position 5 contest, it was all Terrell as he soundly defeated opponent Mike Doyle to fill the seat held by Danny Lee. Terrell barely missed an outright victory in the May 7 contest.

David and Terrell will be sworn in Tuesday, June 28.
