Arrest coming in DYSA theft case

Several weeks after, the Dayton Youth Sports Association discovered discrepancies in the organization’s finances, leading to the immediate dismissal of the group’s longtime treasurer and a subsequent investigation by that board. The Dayton Police Department has now officially filed for a Third-Degree Felony warrant in the case.

According to Chief Derek Woods, his office received a formal complaint from DYSA President Haden Gutierrez late last week.

According to Gutierrez, the organization has turned over all the information from their inquiry to law enforcement and is awaiting results from that investigation.

As investigators work the case, they have identified the former treasurer as a suspect, and according to Woods, the evidence appears airtight.

On Tuesday afternoon, the suspect and an attorney met with Det. Chris Duos to discuss the case, and Woods said they were cooperating with the investigation.

According to Woods, a third-degree felony ranges in the amount of $30,000 to $150,000.

Investigators expect the former treasurer to surrender to authorities at 3:30 p.m. on Friday..
