Coldspring outslugs Hardin 17-16
In a game that featured 33 runs combined and a total of 37 hits, it was the Coldspring Lady Trojans scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to outlast the Hardin Lady Hornets 17-16 on Saturday afternoon in Coldspring.
The game started off on Friday evening with the Lady Trojans leading 13-6 in the top of the fifth inning with Hardin at-bat with a couple of runners on before the umpires halted play.
The game was suspended until Saturday at noon with a feel-like temperature of 31 degrees and steady rain falling from the skies.
After play resumed on Saturday, Hardin put up a pair of runs in the fifth and then took the lead in the sixth inning with seven runs to move ahead 15-13. Audrey Schulz had a three-run double in the sixth to tie the score at 13-apiece, and then an RBI double by Alissa Aragonez followed, and the Lady Hornets led 14-13.
Down 15-13 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, Coldspring put up four runs to retake the lead for good at 17-15.
Madison Holman then made it 17-16 by singling in Reese Parker in the seventh, but the Lady Trojans pitcher settled down to get the final three outs, and Coldspring had the wild win.
Hardin jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning as Holman had a two-run single, and then Trinity Mefferd scored Holman with an RBI single to increase the advantage to 3-0.
The Lady Trojans scored a run in their first at-bat to get within 3-1 before the Lady Hornets added three more in the second.
Kaitlyn Key and Parker had doubles, and then Taylor Knight had a three-run homer to make it a 6-1 lead.
Coldspring then put up a big inning in the bottom half of the frame with nine runs to move in front 10-6.
Two runs in the third and another in the fourth, and the Lady Trojans had a 13-6 advantage after four innings.
Parker had four hits and scored four runs to go along with three doubles. She also finished with seven strikeouts on the mound.
Holman finished with three hits and four RBIs, and Schulz also had four RBIs.
Knight added two hits and three RBIs.
