McCarther gets 200th win at Tarkington
Tarkington Head Baseball Coach Ken McCarther got his 200th career win on Thursday night at the Anahuac Tournament with a 9-0 win over West Orange-Stark behind a perfect game by Trace Shirley.
The Longhorns jumped out in front in the bottom of the first inning with three runs. Kevin McCarther and Shirley singled with two outs, and then Bryan Mills delivered a two-run double to give Tarkington a 2-0 lead. Clayton Primeaux followed with a single to score Mills, and the Longhorns had a 3-0 advantage.
Tarkington added a run in the second on a Dennis Hollingsworth groundout to score Kaleb Stanley, who had walked to make it 4-0.
The Longhorns then put the game away with five more runs in the fifth inning as Mills had a run-scoring single and Primeaux had a two-run double.
Shirley was brilliant on the mound for McCarther as he finished with 11 strikeouts.
On Saturday night, Tarkington blanked East Chambers 10-0 behind the one-hit pitching of Kevin McCarther. Lance Hawthorne and Mills each had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Drendahl Kanada also had two hits for the Longhorns.
