LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS FIGHT LARGE BLAZE
Sunday night, area firefighters were called out to the scene of a house in flames. Fortunately, the home had not been occupied in quite some time. Liberty County ESD No. 2 got the initial call out to the structure, outside of Hull going towards Batson.
Upon arrival, the structure was already half engulfed, and by the time firefighters could fully set up, the structure was fully ablaze, according to ESD No. 2 Chief Benny Carroll.
Carroll said the home had once been an antique store and resale shop and was stacked full of items and that it just fueled the flames of the old structure.
“It had so much fuel. It was made of that old sawmill wood. Just a bunch of old pine and oak,” said Carroll.
ESD No. 2 called out for help from ESD No. 7 in Hardin, Batson, Saratoga, and even for water from Moss Bluff. As firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, the flames took out the entire structure as it burned for several hours.
“Everybody from every district did a great job. Great response time and everything,” Carroll concluded about his team and the departments assisting on the call.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Liberty County Fire Marshall’s office.
