Dayton takes 3rd place at Huntington tourney
On Saturday morning, the Dayton Broncos captured third place at the Huntington Integra Winter Classic with a 54-38 victory over the Chireno Owls.
Houston Gault nailed four three-pointers on his way to a game-high 20 points to lead the way. Isaac Ramirez played well defensively for Dayton with seven steals to go along with seven points.
The Broncos jumped out quick and led 7-2 early on as A.J. Tompkins had five points early on. Chireno then scored six straight points to lead 8-7 before a bucket by Camron Cooper made it 9-8, and the run continued for Dayton and concluded on a three-pointer at the horn by Gault to give the Broncos a 19-8 advantage after one.
Dayton kept stretching the lead, and a trey by Ramirez upped the lead to 24-10. The Broncos led 27-15 at the half.
Dayton scored the first five points of the third period, with Gault connecting from downtown to make it 32-15. The lead ballooned to 40-22 late in the third quarter, with Donavan Orebo scoring off a Cooper pass.
Cooper started the final quarter by grabbing an offensive rebound and scoring while he was fouled, and the Broncos were on their way to the win with a 42-24 lead. Orebo added 8 points for Dayton.
The Broncos will visit Houston Worthing on Friday night.
