Dayton to honor athletic greats
The Dayton Sports Hall of Fame will hold their annual induction ceremony this weekend with a special recognition before the Dayton vs. Nederland contest on Friday. The official ceremony is on Saturday at 10 am at the Dayton Performing Arts Complex. This year’s honorees are possibly one of the most talented slates of athletes ever to be inducted by that organization.
The group will consist of several athletes that went on to careers after leaving Dayton, including three of the most talented basketball players to ever put on the purple and white, in Barry Pruitt, Henry Dugat, and Shaneika Harrison. Also being inducted is William Blackburn, who serves as Associate Head Coach for the University of Houston Track and Field program under former World Record holder Leroy Burrell.
Other notable inductees are local State Farm Agent Calvin Wescott, Joseph Edwards, Crawford Carrier, Bobby Little, Jessie C. Roberts, Chris Louvier, and Brittany Tuck.
Two teams will be inducted, with Shelly and Stacy Seaberg being honored for doubles tennis, along with the 1977 Dayton Broncos Football team.
There will be a special honoring of Outstanding Boosters, with the Colbert Tiger Athletic Foundation being joined by the longtime Dayton Broncos radio broadcast team of Larry Wadzeck and Oran Hamilton.
The community is encouraged to come out and celebrate these Dayton and Colbert High School sports legends.
