Broncos snap winless streak
On Friday night, the Dayton Broncos Football team took the field at Bronco Stadium in Dayton, Texas, searching for their first season victory. The Broncos found what they were looking for a win beating Goose Creek Memorial Patriots (score 45-7). What an impressive win for the Broncos football team, Coach Ware and his coaching staff, and, Broncos fans. Yes, fans of the Broncos can finally say the drought is over. After going all last season winless and starting the 2021 season 0-2 the team needed to get things turned around.
In the first quarter, it all got started with a 60-yard return on a pass interception by C.J. Hubert, who set his teammates up with the ball on offense in Patriots territory. A few plays later, Ashton Garner scores from one yard out to give the Broncos its first score of the night the PAT failed (score 6-0). The next Broncos score came with 3:12 left in the first quarter after an outstanding punt by Gustavo Orozco penned the Patriots on their one-yard line Cameron Cooper on defense for the Broncos bust through the Patriots line causing a safety, the (score now 8-0). After a Dayton Broncos fumble and return to the Broncos 6 yard line with the Patriots threatening to score, Braylon Cook of the Broncos said, “Not on my watch,” intercepts a pass in the back of the endzone to put an end to the Patriots threat. From that point on, it was all about the Broncos; with 5:54 left in the first half Blayne Denton hooked up with Garner for an 81-yard touchdown pass, PAT good (score 15-0) the next Broncos score came with 1:26 left in the first half when Trace Owens picked off a pass from Patriots QB Avery Thomas and ran some 5o-yard for a touchdown PAT was good. Dayton Broncos went into halftime up 22-0.
The second half of the game belonged to the Broncos; at the 5:44 mark of the third quarter Denton again connected with Garner, this time for a 76-yard touchdown pass PAT good (score 29-0), this is how the third quarter ended. At the start of the fourth quarter, Cooper gets his second safety of the game, making the score Dayton 31 – Goose Creek Memorial 0. The Dayton Broncos put up another score with 11:39 left in the game. Hubert takes a Patriots punt and returns it 70-yards to paydirt, bringing the score to 38-0. Goose Creek Memorial did get on the scoreboard with 7:19 left on the clock scoring a touchdown. PAT was good (score 38-7), but the Dayton Broncos would close out the night with one more score. Final Broncos 45 and Patriots 7.
The Broncos will have a bye week before traveling to Crosby for a District showdown with the Cougars. Let’s Go, Broncos!
