Hornets sting Lions
Friday night the Hardin Hornets kicked off the 2021 season on the road against the Kountze Lions and the blue and gold did not disappoint the local faithful who made the trip. The Hornets took home the win with a 14-7 victory over the Lions.
The Hornets grabbed their first score of the night in the opening half with a big run from Ryelee Kubeczka, netting 12 of his 106 total yards on the night.
After being all knotted up at a score apiece at halftime the Hornets special teams stepped up big in the second half on a Lahr Randolph blocked punt that set the Hornets up for a Caden Elmore touchdown to put the Hornets up for good 14-7.
“We made some mistakes, but played really hard. Offensively we controlled the line of scrimmage and that is something that we want to do,” said Head Coach Ned Barrier.
The Hornets return home for their Homecoming game this Friday night against longtime local rival Hull-Daisetta. The Bobcats are coming off a disappointing home opener against Somerville losing 38-10.
Barrier said his team will be hard at work looking at film finding ways to improve as they get ready for this week.
“Its Homecoming and that’s an important game for us. We have just got to continue to get better,” concluded Barrier.
The Hornets and Bobcats kickoff this Friday night at 7:30 pm from Hornet Stadium.
