Extension office celebrates Christmas in July

It was Christmas in July as the Liberty County Extension Appreciation & Achievement Banquet was held last week at the Jack Hartel Building. The program was a festive one for all that were in attendance, with plenty of baked goods and hot chocolate for everyone to enjoy. Some of the sweets were supplied by campers of the 4H Baking Camp held earlier in the week.
The night was an opportunity to hear about some of the fantastic achievements made by folks from kids to the most seasoned adults in the different programs offered by the local Liberty County office of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
One group that was highlighted during this year’s event was local 4H members. That organization has 237 members across Liberty County, with 34 registered volunteers, eight community clubs, and a 4H program club.
Several local 4H members were honored for their work and dedication to the program during the event.
“Kids in Liberty County 4H can receive awards at the county level, district level, regional level, and the national level in some instances,” said Amanda Brooks, County Extension Agent for 4H and Youth Development.
County Extension Agent Roy Flora spoke about some of the great programs under his watch had done over the last year, like Master Gardeners, who had been hard at work logging volunteer hours here in Liberty County.
Another honor on the night came when County Coordinator Alexis Cordova presented Mary Poston with the 2021 Friend of Extension Award for her hard work helping those in need locally.
