Jackson new Mayor of Dayton Lakes
Over the last year, the shake-up surrounding the City of Dayton Lakes City Council has had some definite moving parts, with a fluid cast of characters. Unfortunately, the latest change resulted from medical reasons from now-former Mayor Dennis Norris, who resigned last week from his role in the small Liberty County community.
Council then moved to appoint Mayor Pro-Tem Onnie Jackson to fill the vacancy at this time, making him the fourth person to serve as Mayor in the past year.
The next move for the council was calling for an election to be held this coming November to officially elect a new City Council, with five council posts and the Mayor all on the ballot.
“The first thing I plan on doing is filling the two vacant seats on council. Hopefully, come November, we get some more people in there that want to see a change in the city,” said Jackson.
Jackson hopes to focus on some jobs related to the overall infrastructure of the area.
“As soon as it’s dry, we are hoping to get some loads of rock and fill come holes in the roads,” said Jackson.
Jackson does intend to run for Mayor on a fulltime basis during the November election.
