New Council, New Mayor, New City Hall

The face of leadership at the City of Plum Grove underwent a few changes Monday night, as they welcomed three new members and officially accepted the resignation of Mary Arrendell as Mayor and appointed her replacement to lead the community. They also held the first official meeting in their newly constructed city hall, a project that had been required after the original building was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey.

The three new faces that will be joining in the fray of city leadership are Position 1 Debra Bell, Position 3 Jacob Clay and Position 4 Calvin Padgett, along with returning councilwoman Position 5 Dianne Chunn, they were all sworn in after the ballots were officially canvassed by the council.

Once the new members took their respective offices officially the group moved on to the selection of a new Mayor Pro-Tem and Position 2 Councilwoman Carly Sager was approved by her piers to take on that role, a role in which she immediately had to step up in and fulfill the duties of Mayor, until council approved a new leader in that role.

At Sager’s urging a nomination was made to appoint the outgoing Mayor Pro-Tem, Norris in that position until the current term expires next May.

Newly elected councilman Clay asked to speak at that time and made a rather impassionate statement to his fellow members and the community on hand about whomever the council appointed in that job.

“I’m tired of this freak show,” he started on the recent past surrounding the Plum Grove Council.

He continued, “I believe that we need to start treating citizens with a little more respect.”

Clay concluded by asking of the new Mayor, “I would ask that you represent us well.”

Norris addressed the council and assured them all that she would be up to the task and had every intention of working to give her best to the City of Plum Grove.

At that point the council voted unanimously to approve the appointment of Norris to fulfill the term of Mayor before adjourning.
