Crump and Hebert play long ball in 9-5 win over New Waverly

Haven Crump and Emmah Hebert broke open a close game with home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Hardin Lady Hornets to a huge 9-5 victory over New Waverly on Friday afternoon at home in a huge showdown with the top two teams in district. Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Hardin put up a pair of runs in the frame to move ahead for good. Fayth Adams singled and then Hebert reached on an error to the pitcher. Emily Cherry followed with a single to score Adams to tie the game at 4-apiece. Moments later, Hebert would score also and the Lady Hornets had the lead at 5-4. The following inning, Hardin put the game away with some long ball. Audrey Schulz singled to start things off and then Reese Parker was hit-by-a-pitch. Crump then stepped to the plate and launched a pitch well over the left center field wall for a three-run homer to make it an 8-4 game. Hebert then decided she wanted to play long ball and the catcher sent one over the fence for a solo shot and the lead was up to 9-4. New Waverly did get a run in their final at-bat but came up short as the Lady Hornets had another district win. Parker struck out 8 in getting the win on the mound for Hardin. Crump and Adams each finished with two hits apiece. The Lady Hornets will return to action on April 20 at Onalaska.
