Shooting on January 9
On Saturday, January 9, 2021, at approximately ii pm, the Dayton Police Department responded to a call for service in the 2800 block of196o after receiving a report of a gunshot victim.
When Officers arrived they discovered 15 year old Christopher Roberts, of Dayton, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was deceased inside of the residence.
Detectives spoke with the residents and gathered details surrounding the shooting and learned the shooting was accidental. “At this time in the investigation, it appears Roberts and another youth were both handling firearms [long guns] inside of the residence when there was an accidental discharge”, said Chief Robert Vine.
Although criminal charges may be forthcoming, at the time of this release, no criminal charges have been filed and no arrests have been made. Detectives will continue to gather information on this case and work with local prosecutors.
Roberts was a student at Woodrow Wilson Junior High and Dayton ISD is providing assistance with grieving students and staff.
