Men’s Brotherhood Banquet, Feb. 20
A Reminder, the date for the Men’s Bible Class of the First United Methodist Church annual Brotherhood Banquet is coming fast. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the fellowship hall of the church in downtown Liberty.
From the first event it has been thought of as an all male gathering but Mike Spears, one of the class leaders that sponsor the banquet tells us, with a chuckle, they have at last joined the 21st century and welcome the ladies to attend and hopes, especially with this speaker, the women of the area will forgive this being exclusively for men for nearly 10 decades and attend this fun-filled and very informative event. This will be the 94th consecutive year that men of all faiths have gathered. Hundreds of men have met and hopefully even more, both men and women, will enjoy a delicious meal, entertainment and this keynote speaker — Pi Yi Mayo, an expert on elder law.
After the first year in 1926, the standard fare each year has been turkey and dressing with trimmings. Banquet speakers have featured men of all faiths representing almost every major profession, vocation, and political persuasion. Keynote speaker Mr. Pi-Yi Mayo is a lifelong Baytown resident. Mr. Mayo earned his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Houston. In a career spanning over 30 years, he has extensive experience in elder law, Medicaid planning, special needs trusts, disability law, and veteran’s benefits. He is past president of the Texas Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He received his V.A. Accreditation from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mayo has built a national reputation on the subject and has made 100s of speeches, most importantly to the elderly with disabilities, and their family members and caregivers.
Tickets for the 94th Annual Brotherhood Banquet are $10 and available from members of the Men’s Bible Class of the First United Methodist Church, Liberty. Tickets are also available at the church office or call 936-336-6401.
