Marsh Fest coming March 6-8

WINNIE, TEXAS — The Trevor Lee Chesson Memorial Marsh Fest will take place in the Winnie-Stowell Community Park in Winnie, Texas from March 6-8.

Hunting, fishing, bird watching and wildlife are some of Southeast Texas’ most popular resources. Marsh Fest focuses on youth and local community working closely with the Winnie Area Chamber of Commerce (WACC) to support various events and businesses throughout the year.

Activities at 2020 Marsh Fest include IBCA sanctioned BBQ Cook-off, Open Seafood, Dessert and Kids Cook-off, Sanctioned Duck and Goose Calling Contests, Live Music including Tracy Byrd, George Dearborne, Glen Templeton, Ray Johnston and Spencer Marks, various children’s activities including bouncy houses, petting zoos and more, Mutton Bustin’, Team Roping, Washer Tournaments, Sunday Sunrise Service and more.

Team Roping and Mutton Bustin’ will take place under the newly constructed Lilton Sonnier covered arena. On Sunday, Marsh Fest will award the champion Team Roper a Bumper Pull Two Horse Slant with Tack Room.

Calling Contests at Marsh Fest have options for callers of all ages. The sanctioned duck and goose calling contests will bring some of the nation’s top competitors. Winners of James “Cowboy” Fernandez Memorial Texas State Championship and Southern Central Flyaway Regional qualify winners to compete in the World Championship Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas.

Food and commercial vendors will include a wide assortment from hunting equipment, boats, vehicles, local businesses, arts/crafts, clothing and more. Applications are still being accepted for cook-off teams, merchandise vendors and sponsorship for this inaugural event.

Marsh Fest provides academic scholarships and a memorial scholarship to area schools including East Chambers, Hamshire-Fannett and High Island High Schools. Donations are also made to local fishing teams.
