UMC LIBERTY BLOOD DRIVE

First United Methodist Church Liberty, along with Life Share Blood Centers, will host a blood drive, Thursday, Dec. 12, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall, 539 Main Street in Liberty. Anyone who has not donated whole blood in the last 56 days, or double red cells in the last 112 days, is eligible. By donating blood you are truly giving the gift of life. HAPPY BIRTHDAYJESUS CELEBRATION

First Baptist Church Dayton will hold a Happy Birthday Jesus Celebration Saturday, Dec. 14, 10-11:30 a.m. at the FBC Gym, 202 E. Houston in Dayton. The free community-wide event for children up to fifth grade will have crafts, games, cupcake decorating and face painting.

CANTERBURY CHORALE PRESENTS HANDEL’S MESSIAH

The Canterbury Chorale will present Handel’s Messiah at 5 p.m. on Sunday, 15 Dec., at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Liberty. Soloists will be Laurie Elliott, Ellin Gossett, Julie Pitre, Christie Bean, Randy Gunter and David Hargis. Lonnie Tanner will be our Organist, and Jim Sterling the Conductor. We will have a Reception in the Parish Hall following. The public is invited. Free. LIBERTY-DAYTON AREA CHAMBER DECEMBER LUNCHEON

The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce monthly business Christmas Luncheon will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Liberty Center. PANTHER PLAYERS CHRISTMAS PLAYS

The 2019-2020 edition of both the LMS and LHS Panther Players are proud to present four short One Act Christmas plays, two on Monday, Dec. 16, and two more Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the LHS Black Box Theater starting each night at 6 p.m. Monday evening will begin with our LHS intro class and continue with one LMS play. Wednesday night will feature two more LMS plays. There is no charge for admission to the shows, but seating is limited so please come early. The LMS casts will present their plays for the entire LMS student body and faculty on Friday, Dec. 20. Look for updates on our UIL One Act Play competition, and we look forward to seeing you at the shows.

JONES LIBRARY QUILT AND PILLOW RAFFLE

The Friends of the Jones Public Library are having a quilt and pillow raffle. Tickets are $1 a piece or 6 for $5. The quilt is a patriotic themed quilt and will fit a full sized bed. It would also make a wonderful lap quilt. The pillows are also Americana themed, and will be raffled separately. The quilt and pillows will be on display in the Jones Public Library until the raffle day. You can purchase your tickets at the front desk of the library, or with any of our friends members. We will raffle off the quilt on Friday, Dec. 20. CHAMBER COUSHATTA TRIP

The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a bus trip to Coushatta Resort and Casino for Thursday, Jan. 16. In order for the chamber to meet the necessary deadlines with Coushatta, reservations for this trip must be made right away. First Class Tours luxury bus leaves from the former Liberty Thrif-Tee Food Center parking lot, 1021 N. Main Street, across from City of Liberty Public Works Facility. Those wishing to make the trip must be checked in, seated and ready to leave promptly at 8 a.m. The bus arrives at Coushatta approximately 10:30 a.m. and will depart at 5 p.m. to return home near 7:30 p.m. The trip is coordinated by Eliza Guidry. Door prizes are awarded, water and snacks are provided. Movies are also shown on the trip. If you have a favorite western, comedy or family oriented movie, please bring it to be shown. RELIC HUNTERS

Are you interested in treasure hunting or becoming a treasure hunter? Are you interested in local history and would like to research it? Southeast Texas Relic Hunters is a treasure club starting in Batson. Its first meeting will be held at New Life Church, 42493 Hwy. 105 in Bat-son, at 7 p.m. Jan. 18. The guest speaker will be Keith Wills, called America’s top treasure hunter by Life Magazine in 2004, he has treasure hunted from Canada to Argentina and is the owner of East Texas Metal Detectors and Repair Services. AA AND NA MEETINGS

AA and NA meet on the first and third Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1600 Wallisville Road, Suite A in Liberty, 936-334-1616 (inside Turkey Creek Baptist Church). Parking is located on south side of building. Enter from the rear side door of building.

AL ANON

Al Anon meetings are held every Wednesday at noon at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Liberty.

COFFEE WITH THE MAYOR

Liberty’s citizens are invited to have coffee with Liberty Mayor Carl Pickett on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m. in the council chambers at City Hall. This is an opportunity to discuss ideas or projects or voice any concerns citizens might wish to express.

CLEVELAND SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES

The Cleveland Senior Center hosts regular activities at their 22 Peach Avenue facility. The regular schedule includes lunch on weekdays, 42 dominoes early every weekday morning, bingo Fridays at 9:30 a.m., and cake raffle on Fridays at 11:30 a.m. Also, San Jac Wheels performs on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 9:30 a.m. The Lions Club meets every Tuesday at noon, and the Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon.

VETERAN MEET-UP

NIMBLE THIMBLES

Jones Public Library is excited to announce the start of a new quilting club. The club, The Nimble Thimbles, will meet once a month at the Jones Public Library. This club is for anyone who wants to join, from beginners to quilters. Class starts at 10 a.m.

COWBOY CHURCH

Line Camp Cowboy Church will hold church services at 711 Hwy. 90 E., Devers each Sunday at 9 a.m. for “simple, Christ-centered, Bible-based preachin’ and fellowship.” Boots and hats are welcome, but not required. Come a little early for “meetin’ and greetin’, donuts and coffee.”

OPERATION GRATITUDE ACCEPTING OLD CELL PHONES

Please recycle your old cell phones to benefit Operation Gratitude (Soldiers in the Military). Money will be earned for each recycled phone.
