Sports Round Up
Here’s some of what went down on the basketball courts Thursday, Dec. 5:
Liberty Panthers
Liberty’s Coach Jason Wickliff tells us that yesterday the Panthers varsity basketball team kicked off their first tournament of the season in Deweyville. The Panthers went 1-1 on the day after losing a nail biter to West Orange Stark in the final minutes, 50-46. The Panthers bounced back in their second game of the evening against Orange Community Christian and won, 67-32. This victory has moved your Liberty Panthers into the consolation bracket facing the Dayton Broncos on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 10:15 a.m.
Dayton Broncos
According to scores posted online, the Dayton Broncos whipped the boys from Colmesneil by 70-29, while the Lady Broncos took a beating from those Lovelady girls, 68-40.
West Hardin Oilers
Justin Kelm reports the Oilers won, 53-47, over Bob Hope in the opening round of the High Island Tournament.
The Lady Oilers won 54-13 against Bob Hope in their first tournament game before falling to the Hardin Lady Hornets in the second, 40-17.
The following Oiler football players have received THSCA Academic All-State honors: Russell Payne, First Team; Keaton Castilaw, Second Team; Lance Mosley and Jake Strahan, honorable mentions.
Hardin Hornets
Online reports say the Hardin Hornets fell to O’Connell by 56-42, and then to Sabine Pass, 57-43.
Hull-Daisetta Bobcats
The Cats ran away with their game against Corrigan-Camden, beating them 60-38.
The LadyCats beat Woodville JV 57-53, but lost to Beaumont Kelly by 56-46.
Tarkington Longhorns
The Horns lost two yesterday, falling 48-36 to Galena Park and 40-22 to Kingwood Park. (So, it was no day in the park for the Longhorns).
The LadyHorns lost a squeaker to Round Rock Westwood, 46-44.
Cleveland Indians
The Cleveland Lady Indians fell hard to Waller, 93-20, according to the scores posted on MaxPreps.
The Cleveland varsity boys have probably done something recently that The Vindicator would be happy to report if only someone would tell us about it.
