(1) Dickie Dixon is writing “A History of Lufkin, Texas, December 1881 to the Present,” to include everything he can of significant events, people, businesses, and pieces of history interesting to those who love history. If you have something of interest pertaining to the history of Lufkin or Angelina County, please contact him in one of the manners listed at the bottom of this column. 

(2) Every week, on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to noon, he is a guest on the Bryan Swap Shop on AM radio station KRBA radio, which is simulcast as a live television show on television station KLNMtv.com. The show is aired on Suddenlink Channel 16, and the public can access it on their cellphones by googling “klnmtv.com.” A blue rectangular box will appear that says “Watch Live Here.” By clicking on this, the public can watch the show. Call in by phone at 936-632-Sell or 936-637-Deal.

(3) There is some interest in having a cleanup day to clean up Hillcrest Cemetery. If you would like to participate, contact the author in the ways listed ate the bottom of this column.

(5) The Deep East Texas Archeological Society will host its Christmas party/impromptu auction on Monday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, at the Iris and Anne Howard Civic Center on 213 East Court Street in downtown Newton. Vice-president Dickie Dixon will cook two briskets and mix up four sauces from dry ingredients for the dinner; members are asked to bring sides or desserts. Each member is also asked to bring an item or items to auction off at the impromptu auction, which will follow the meal. All proceeds from the auction go to pay for the Society’s expenses for 2020. Annual dues for the Society are only $5 per year for an individual, $10 for a family — payable beginning in January. (6) The Angelina County Genealogical Society will hold its Christmas party from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019 in the Fellowship Hall of Keltys United Methodist Church on 1867 Old Mill Road in Lufkin, Texas. President Dickie Dixon will cook a brisket and make up sauces homemade, and members are asked to bring sides. Members are asked to bring an item to be auctioned off for the impromptu auction.
