WALLISVILLE— Saturday night was one to remember, as about 250 people came out to enjoy live music and good food, all in support of the community.

Anahuac ISD Education Foundation and ESA Sorority, both non-profits, hosted their Third Annual Bayou Ball Feb. 15 with an “Ace in the Hole” theme to raise funds for community outreach.

“Saturday was a special night for our community,” AISD Education Foundation Board President Hannah Vaughan said. “We had so much fun dancing with ‘George’ while raising funds to provide wonderful projects for Anahuac ISD classrooms.”

The event was a night to remember with performances by Derek Spence, George Strait impersonator, and his band, Southern County Line.

“Ace in the Hole Bayou Ball was so much fun. We had a wonderful performance by our George Strait tribute artist Derek Spence plus the great music of Southern County Line,” Amy Turner, ESA Sorority, said. “Proceeds from the event will go far in providing a variety of community needs.”

The silent auction was a success, as many donated to the event. Cattleman’s Kitchen and Cakes catered a ribeye dinner.

The Bayou Ball is the education foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year, providing funds for various outreach programs.

The organization awards classroom grants to educators for programs, projects and products that the district may not otherwise fund. The foundation awards annual grants across the school district, totaling an average of $28,000.

ESA Sorority also has many outreach programs. The organization has raised funds for various fire departments, EMS, SPEED Day, Bay Area Turning Point, Friends of the Library, Anahuac Cemetery, Relay for Life, Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center, Chambers County Child Welfare and Project Graduation.
