Chambers County Weather Update

Chambers County continues to closely monitor the winter weather and is prepared to respond as needed. While the Emergency Operations Center has not been activated, key personnel are staged and ready to address potential impacts.

 

Current Weather Forecast

  • Major impacts expected from tonight through early Wednesday morning.
  • Impacts may persist through Thursday, even after precipitation ends.
  • Overnight temperatures will drop below freezing nightly through Friday, creating potentially dangerous road conditions, especially in the early morning.
  • Wind chills will be in the teens through the end of the week.
  • Wind gusts of 20-35 mph through Tuesday may reduce visibility, contribute to ice accumulation, and result in colder wind chills.

 

Chambers County Preparedness

  • Warming centers: None are currently open, but plans are in place to activate them if prolonged power or water outages occur.
  • EMS: Disaster protocols are ready to be activated, with adequate supplies and staff on hand.
  • Emergency communication systems are prepared to withstand severe weather.
  • Road and Bridge crews have already begun sanding bridges to enhance safety.

 

Important Updates

  • County Office Closures: Chambers County offices will be closed Monday, January 20, through Wednesday, January 22.
  • Citizen Collection Stations (Box Sites): Stations regularly open on Mondays will close today at 3 p.m. All stations and the landfill will be closed Tuesday, January 21, and Wednesday, January 22.
  • Park Restroom Facilities: All restroom facilities in county parks are closed.
