Kirbyville gets defensive against Anahuac 33-16
KIRBYVILLE – The Anahuac Lady Panthers had difficulty getting the offense going last Tuesday night in the 22-3A District opener at Kirbyville.
The Lady Wildcats defense allowed only four points in three quarters, which would be more than enough for a 33-16 victory.
The Lady Panthers were shutout in the opening quarter but played some good defense in holding the Lady Wildcats to just five points.
Anahuac got the offense going in the second period. Madison Willis scored the first points for the Lady Panthers on a layup and they trailed 5-2.
Paisley Wells then scored on the inside and Anahuac trailed 6-4.
Kirbyville answered with an 8-0 run before a three-pointer by Vallynn Cook cut the deficit to 14-7.
Moments later, a make from downtown by Callie Henicke pulled the Lady Panthers within 16-10.
Taylor Trainer scored just before the first half ended and Anahuac trailed 16-12.
The second half was all Kirbyville. In the third quarter the Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Panthers 7-1 to lead 23-13 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final eight minutes, Anahuac saw a Henicke bucket account for the only field goal in the second half.
Henicke led the Lady Panthers in scoring with five points, while Cook and Willis had three points apiece.
Anahuac will host Buna Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
