THE TRIVIUM CLUB OF LIBERTY

The Trivium Club of Liberty had their first meeting of the new year on Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the evening at the home of member Sandy Pickett. Club President Kimber Hinch distributed the yearbooks and she along with Vice Presidents Pam Turner and Amy Milentz went over the programs planned for next year. Treasurer Julie Hebert reviewed the proposed budget for the year. The members were happy to be back and visit with friends that they might have been out of touch with for the summer. Hostesses for the night were Ada at Schmidt, Sandy Pickett, and Gloria Stratton. They provided a delectable treat for the ladies to enjoy. — Roberta Thornton

DAYTON NOON LIONS CLUB

The Dayton Noon Lions Club meets at Kountry Kitchen, 313 N. Main Street in Dayton, on the first and third Wednesday of each month. For more information, call President Susan Giberson at 936-391-9822.

LIBERTY LIONS CLUB

The Liberty Lions Club has been established over 80 years! The Liberty Lions Club meets in City Hall, 1829 Sam Houston Street, at 7 p.m. on the first, third, and fifth Monday of each month. There is a program, and the cost of the meal is $9. Liberty Lions are conducting vision screening at preschool. The SPOT Vision screener checks for five abnormalities.

The Liberty Lions Club offers American and Texas flag service six times each year on dates related to history of the country and state. The service costs $35 per year. For more information, call Jody Regen at 936-346-1029.

KENEFICK ACTIVITIES CLUB

The Kenefick Activities Club meets the first and third Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Kenefick Community Building. The club is gearing up for their Thanksgiving Dinner. A quilt is being raffled as well as a Yeti cooler. The tickets may be purchased at the price of $1 or 6 tickets for $5. The winner will be announced at the Thanksgiving dinner. HARDIN LIONS CLUB

Hardin Lions Club is elated to report that they have added four new members to their pride! On Sept. 10 at the Las Compadres Mexican Restaurant in Hardin, District 2-S2 First Vice District Governor Bonita officiated the induction ceremony. Each new Lion was given the opportunity to speak on their personal and professional lives and why they became Lions. New Hardin Lions are Mandi Stuart, business manager, her mother, Debbie Adams, Hardin Bank Branch Manager, Caleb Stuart, attorney, and Kelly Stuart, marketer. Caleb and Kelly own and operate Stuart Oilfield Services. Caleb and Mandi’s husband Casey Stuart are the grandsons of much beloved late Hardin Lion Zena Thomas. They are also the great nephews of Past International Director Pat Shirley; who was the first female International Director for Lions Club International in the Western Hemisphere. Hardin Lions owe Dr. Gracie a debt of gratitude. He began talking to FVDG Bonita over a year ago about two young ladies — one of whom was the Hardin Bank Branch Manager — that he would like to see become Hardin Lions. After they became acquainted, Lion Mandi and Lion Bonita realized that Dr. Gracie had been trying to get them together. Now, here they are. This is a jubilant time for Hardin Lions.

Hardin Lions Club had their Officers Installation on Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. District 2-S2 Governor Tony Austin officiated. Eleven clubs from around the district were represented at the event. Most of the Leadership Team was present. 2019-2020 Hardin Officers are President Savannah Ardoin, First Vice President Suzie Vestal, Treasurer Carl Bolds, Secretary Bonita Davis, Directors Quinton Chaney, Greg Arthur and Charles Bolds.

AMES ALMIGHTY BREAKFAST LIONS CLUB

Hard working volunteers may contact the new President Eric Roy or any member to join. Where there is a need there is a Lion. District 2-S2 welcomes this club under the Join Together Program. We Serve! PDG Chris Moorman and Hardin President Savannah Ardoin are the guiding Lions for this new club. On Sept. 10, some members of the Ames Lions Club attended the Hardin Lions Club meeting. Hardin is the Charter Club for Ames. Ames Treasurer Emmett Albro shared inspiring words of his plans for Ames. He was accompanied by his lovely wife. Secretary Veronica Mallet was full of her bright spirits and vigor. Hometown hero, cousin and friend to many, Marvin Searles joined the Ames Almighty Breakfast Club as their Administrator. Lion Marvin has a celebrated career in Liberty County and beyond as an educator, athletic coach, and Christian gentleman. Just the sight of him is enough to bring a smile to most faces in the area.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF LIBERTY

The Rotary Club of Liberty meets each Tuesday at noon at Hacienda San Lorenzo. Come and enjoy a program, fellowship, and a meal.

THE TEXAS MASTER NATURALISTS OF LIBERTY AND CHAMBERS COUNTY

Do you have an interest in nature? Do you enjoy spending time outside? Do animals and birds and lizards fascinate you? Do you like to share your interests with other folks? The Texas Master Naturalists of Liberty and Chambers County would like to invite you to join us. Master Naturalists are celebrating their 21st year of volunteering, learning, researching and benefiting the state of Texas. Becoming a certified Master Naturalist involves 40 hours of training including field trips. We’ll meet on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Training will start on June 6 and be finished by the middle of October. We’ll cover aquatic systems, prairie systems, forest systems, urban systems as well as the history of naturalists in Texas, local archaeology, weather and other pertinent topics. After initial training, you’ll be expected to volunteer for at least 40 hours per year and attend 8 hours of advanced training. The Lower Trinity Basin Master Naturalist Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists is holding a new training class. Applications will be available soon. The class fee is $175 which includes the book, all training materials, your official name tag and shirt, as well as $25 a year chapter dues. For more information call Karen Morris, 713-854-4482.

DAYTON YARN CLUB MEETS TUESDAYS

Do you crochet or knit? Maybe you would like to learn. Join us at the Dayton Community Center Tuesdays at 1 p.m. We are working on lap blankets for Veterans and we have donated yarn if you would like to help with that project. If not bring your own project. Lots of talking and laughing going on in here so come and join the fun at the Dayton Community Center, 801 S. Cleveland Street in Dayton.

CARS, COFFEE & MORE

The Liberty Street Rally-Cars, Coffee & More is held on the square in downtown Liberty the second Saturday of the month, weather permitting, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. See classic cars, hot rods, motorcycles, and more.

CLEVELAND SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES

The Cleveland Senior Center hosts regular activities at their 22 Peach Avenue facility. The regular schedule includes:

• 42 Dominoes — Early every weekday morning
• Bingo — Fridays at 9:30 a.m.
• Cake Raffle — Fridays at 11:30 a.m.
• San Jac Wheels performs on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 9:30 a.m.
• Lions Club meets every Tuesday at noon
• Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon

FRIENDSHIP QUILTERS

The Friendship Quilters meet on the second Wednesday of the month in Dayton, at Calvary Baptist Church on FM 1960. The meetings begin at 10 a.m., and everyone is welcome.

ST. STEPHEN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH

There was a “JAZZ MASS” on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Church (2041 Trinity, Liberty). All of the music was composed by Liberty’s own Jim Sterling, and it was for Choir and Dixieland Combo. They had Gumbo Dinner in the Parish Hall after, free.

The Annual Blessing of the Animals will be at St. Stephen’s Church at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5. Bring your “Wee Beastie” down and have him/her get their blessing. Over the years, we have had a collage of different animals. Dogs, cats, horses, roosters, hamsters, birds, snakes, etc.
