Hornets outvote Senators, 55-0

Last Friday night the Hardin Hornets (2-1) laid an old fashioned slobberknocker on the Houston KIPP Senators, 55-0. The victory by the Hornets extended their home winning streak to eight games; the longest in school history.

The Hornets scored early and often, opening up the contest with a 70-yard drive that was capped off by junior quarterback Austin Potetz.

Potetz would lead the scoring for the Hornets on both sides of the ball with four touchdowns on the night, including a 50-yard TD pass to Matthew Tidwell, two rushing touchdowns, and the defensive play of the game with a 53-yard interception return for a touchdown. Potetz had seven carries for 74 yards rushing, and five of six for 118 yards in the air.

Tidwell had three receptions for 85 yards, including that big 50-yard receiving touchdown, but the big play of the night on offense was when Jermaine Albrough ran 88 yards for a big Hardin touchdown. Albrough led all rushers with 109 yards on five carries.

Sophomore quarterback Jaden Parrish also got in on the action with a touchdown pass to Trenton Dickey.

The lopsided victory allowed a lot of Hornets to get needed playing time on the night.

“It was great, and the kids got to have a lot of fun out there,” said head coach Larry Haynes.

The Hornets ended the night with 464 total yards, 339 yards rushing, and 125 yards passing.

Defensively it was a solid effort all the way around by the Hornets, giving up only 168-yards total to KIPP, with just 9 yards on 12 attempts rushing on the night. Dickey, for the third consecutive week led all tacklers with eight, with Paul Thonsguard close behind with seven.

The Hornets have a bye this week, as they prepare to open up District 12-3A, Division I play next Friday night when the Hornets travel north to meet Warren, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
