Early voting begins Monday in city and school elections

Voters will head to the polls next week as early voting begins on Monday, April 22, in races for city, school and special elections across the county.

On the ballot in Liberty, Dayton, Cleveland, Ames, Daisetta and Plum Grove races will decide the future leadership in those communities.

Voters will also decide several school board races in Liberty, Cleveland, and Devers ISDs, as well as a special bond election in Tarkington ISD.

TISD is asking voters to approve issuing a $59 million bond for improvements to campus facilities.

Priority will be given to a new elementary school, renovations and additions to the high school, and renovations at the early childhood center and junior high school. The bond will also pay for the purchase of necessary land for such buildings and the levy and imposition of taxes sufficient to pay the principal and interest on the bonds.

Since 2019, state law has required all bond propositions for any school district to have the phrase “ THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE’ on all ballot language for bond propositions. Homeowners age 65 and older who have filed for and received the Over 65 exemption will not see an increase over their frozen dollar amount.

Liberty County will have five early voting locations for voters to cast ballots in any race. Voting Monday, April 22 – Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday, April 27 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Sunday, April 28 from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m., Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
